Slow contest out here in the heartland. Hot and windy both days. I operated
QRP Portable about 5 miles west on Nickerson, KS on a bluff overlooking the
Arkansas River in EM08.
6M 24 Qs 20 Gs MFJ-9406, 2 el yagi
2M 3 Qs 3 Gs IC-706, halo
Total: 27 Qs, 23 Gs, 27 QSO Points = 621 points
High winds blew down mast with 70 and 23 cm antennas, broke both of them.
Managed to keep 6M yagi up, but by end of the contest the wind had twisted
the elements around and it looked like a windmill. Worked VA6AN do42 and
KC4PX el98 near the end of the contest - nice geographic spread. Loud 6M
signals from K8GP, N3EMF, K2BAR, NT0V and VE5UF. Heard lots of weak stuff
couldn't work with 10 watts. Alot of work for not much of a score - but glad
to give out the rare grid.
