Hi Tom,
Either position has advantages as far as I can see. At my QTH I have the
luxury of choosing 50 MHz antennas at 90, 66, 42, and 18 ft, plus I have a small
5 element yagi at 30 ft with a different rig that I can compare. There is not
one height that is best. I think for best overall results, I would put the
antenna at 60 ft. 60 ft is a great height for six meters. (A good all round
height) That being said, I am amazed at how well my 30 ft high short (17 ft)
yagi performs. It is great on forward scatter for about 750 miles. Generally,
the low antenna will outperform the higher antenna at times on Es or some F2,
but I would think that the 60 fter would be better for a greater number of
signals. If it were me, I would put up two antennas and a switch!
