OK, I have something special to talk about...
Hamvention 2022.
The folks at Hamvention have asked me to line up 4 to 5 "rovers' to
display at Hamvention. Jim, K8JH has hosted his "Ham Van" for the last
two years Hamvention has occurred. I have had Dave Devos, KF8QL show his
car, and in 2019 we had Andrea, K2EZ in her amazing setup.
So we are on for this year. I have Jim, K8JH with his Ham Van, and
Andrea, K2EZ with her setup coming back. I am looking for two to three
more folks.
The details:
You need to be at our area, which is immediately east of the main walk
in gate from the main parking lot, by 8-8:30 am Friday, Saturday, and we
prefer Sunday. You have to wait for the crowd to thin out after 5 PM to
leave. I suggest that if possible, you leave your vehicle and ride with
friends. But we can accommodate you going in and out.
You need to be by your vehicle, or have friends who can explain it,
during the Hamvention open hours. Trust me, you will have plenty of
traffic.
You don't get paid for this !! But you will have a lot of fun and you
will receive four tickets to the Hamvention.
I am looking for any type of vehicle that catches the eye of the average
ham walking by. The extreme rover vehicle like Andrea's are a treat to
explain, and hopefully your vehicle can attract the people. At the end
of the day, you will be tired, but you will have a unique feeling that
you help spread the fun and joy of roving.
I really like the sophisticated vehicles, but it would also be proper to
have a simple tri-band car/pickup truck setup, to show people what you
can do with a FT-991A and a few omni antennas. Remember, part of this is
an outreach to encourage weak signal VHF-UHF and microwave operation and
roving.
Please message me or email me at k8tb@bosscher.org, with pictures and
description of your setup.
