Marshall,

I don't think your interpretation of the CQ VHF Contest rules related to what CQ terms "QSO Alerting Assistance" is correct.  In particular, your claim that "Stations in the contest will not be able to post if they are making contacts via CW / SSB or FT8" is not supported by the CQ writeup at http://www.cqww-vhf.com/

I think the CQ rules are poorly written and confusing.  However, Rule IV-1 states "All stations are allowed to use QSO Alerting Assistance."  There is no exclusion by mode in that rule.

Rule IV-3 indicates that website posts may not provide "information beyond that of callsign, frequency, and sequence."  Evidently, by exclusion, the meat of these contest rules is that you are not allowed to post your grid square (multiplier).  Rule IV-4 provides an exception to that for rovers only.

I'm surprised that nobody from CQ Magazine has stepped forward to provide any clarification.  In any event, it will be interesting to see what the threatened "adjudication process" after the contest uncovers.

Stations attempting digital meteor scatter or digital EME contacts are allowed to post Call, Frequency, Mode, and Sequence ONLY to the various reflectors.  THESE ARE THE CQ RULES.  This means that a station calling CQ on 6M MSK144 in the contest will be able to post something like "50.260MHz....CQ CQ CQ de K5QE First Sequence MSK144" to the PingJockey reflector.  That is what I usually post anyway.  Stations in the contest will not be able to post if they are making contacts via CW / SSB or FT8.
