All,
I am very pleased to announce a new WriteLog web support site for WriteLog
users at www.k9jy.com. The purpose of the site is to provide a 'user manual,
how-to' approach to working with WriteLog. The content of the site combines
personal experiences with the program along with Help file extracts
organized in a way, I hope, that makes it easier for the user to work the
program. The site is organized by subjects and includes both text as well as
extensive use of screen shots from the program.
There is much work to be done on the site, but there is currently a lot of
useful information to get the user of the program set up to work with the
program. We are coming up on the heart of the contest season; the site is
designed to help you work your contest the most effective way with WriteLog.
The site is different from the www.WriteLog.com site in that it is a 'use'
oriented site. Wayne and Ron have an excellent site for supporting the
software product itself; this site is to supplement the support efforts for
users so Wayne and Ron can concentrate on building all of us improved
versions of their excellent program. Between the WriteLog Reflector and the
www.k9jy.com site, I am hoping that users will find answers to most of their
questions.
Currently up and working on the site:
Setting up You
This section looks at the initial setup of the program after you have
installed WriteLog on your PC. There are three sections completed here:
Microsoft Windows and WriteLog, initial editing of your WriteLog.ini file,
and initial program setup for use in any contest.
Operating a Contest
This section looks at what additional steps are needed to be done to set up
the program for use in SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK, and Single Band contests. What is
not completed for each of these yet is operating during the contest.
WriteLog Windows
Everything you always wanted to know about the windows in WriteLog are in
this section. I'm taking each of the windows in WriteLog (QSO Entry, Band
Map, Check Call, etc.) and putting all the information about the window in
one place (do you know how to change the font in the QSO entry window?).
Several windows are in this section; more to come.
WriteLog Links
This section currently has Contest Sponsor links working (equipment, such as
links to other user supported sites like WriteLog and Kenwood radios, PK-232
sites, and others you have seen on the reflector, will come later). I wanted
to have a single source of the Contest Sponsor rules located in one place
for the contests supported by WriteLog. Some contest rules are not yet
available (like ARRL 10 meter last I looked on the ARRL site) and some I
don't know (Stew Perry 160 meter contest). For the ones I don't know, I'd
appreciate some help.
Other sections to be worked on over the next several weeks include: Post
Contest, Functional Setup (everything about one subject, such as CW, in one
place), WriteLog Maintenance (such as multiplier maintenance), Equipment
Setup, 2-Radio Contesting, and - my favorite - Multi-Op Contesting.
As each of these areas are updated, I'll send a (much shorter) email to the
reflector to let you know.
It's a work in progress, but hopefully you will see quality work in the
sections that are on the site right now with more to come.
