Just an FYI -
I've reported previously on the good luck I had with the SIIG "PCI Expander
4S" serial I/O card (2 serial ports, expandable to 4)
I just installed the expansion kit and am happy to report that I now have a
total of *6* serial ports in the computer, plus a PCI modem for a 7th
serial port - and not an IRQ conflict anywhere in the bunch! I'm running a
Pentium-II class motherboard (Abit BE-6) under Win98SE and I have no ISA
cards in the system (PCI only).
Your mileage may vary, of course, but for those of you with a fairly modern
motherboard, I think this might be a good card to consider. I don't think
I'd try it on an older motherboard (Pentium I class), as my experience has
been poor with hardware of that vintage, but the manufacturer claims it'll
work on any machine with a free PCI slot and Windows 3.1 or later. I also
note that the card comes with a 5-year warranty!
