It seemed that in using Writelog this weekend, much more than ever before, I
experienced repeated difficulty using the soundcard voicekeyer and with
mouse clicks on bandmap/packet windows. I suspect that perhaps it is related
to other Windows application software that I have installed over the months
since CQ WW SSB, when Writelog seemed to function without difficulty. At
one point this weekend I had to do two successive cold boots to restore
voicekeyer operation.
I was going to build up a new computer anyway so I will plan on doing a
fresh Win98 installation with minimal software, including WriteLog. I will
then plan on having the capability of calling up this virgin install in one
of two ways: either 1) maintain this as a separate disk partition that is
only used during contests or 2) capture an image of the hard drive after the
fresh install (using Norton/Ghost) and plan on restoring the image before
contests. (any comments?)
Just wanted to caution others that Win98 seems to be a bit shakey of a
contesting platform when a fair amount of software apps get loaded after
WriteLog. BTW, I'm also running DXTelnet which may add to the complexity of
software interactions during the contest.
