To send CW or FSK RTTY, you need an "interface" cable consisting of a cable
with 1 resistor and 1 transistor somewhere in the line for a cost of pennies
from Radio Shack. There are circuit diagrams in the HELP files, and there
are tons more on the Internet ranging from the simplest described above to
very complex. Simple is all you need.
My first interface just had the resistor and transistor hanging out the back
of a DB-9 connector - Sloppy, but worked great. I've since built a little
box that makes it neater and more flexible, but the concept is simple once
you get used to it. $-things like the Rigblasters just aren't necessary.
For CW, DTR line of com port through 1K resistor to base of 2N2222 or
2N3904. Ground of com port to emitter of transistor. Collector of
transistor to CW line of rig; emitter to ground of rig key line.
For PTT, you can use the CAT control if your rig supports it, or you can
make a cable similar to the above using RTS for PTT control.
