Assuming Windows 2000 Professional ...
No, there's no msconfig program (though its back for XP).
If there is a utility, I can't think of it ...
and I didn't see it in searching the help on
a couple of our Windows 2000 Servers.
The Task Manager can show you what's running ...
There's a lot of way things get started up:
- at boot time, from dependencies in the registry
- a few registry locations (like run once) that
can specify when a program starts
(typically used by console-less applications)
- one or two startup groups (your account, and the computer)
- login scripts
- group policy
If there's a specific piece of code you don't want
started up ... you may want to research if there's
some command line utility or GUI that can allow
you to start/stop/disable it.
As I've been running XP for 18+ months now,
sorry I can't help you more. Hopefully someone
else will supply some better info!
