I see the dropout also at random times. Several times an hour, at least.    I 
thought it was only me.  I'm running WL 10.51 with MTTY Version 1.65 with 
Windows 98.   Comm PTT is set to YES on the Radio (FT1000D) Comm Port.

My only remedy ( assuming I catch it quickly enough) is to quickly press ESC 
and the appropritate F key again.
