Interestingly, I had a similar situation yesterday playing on 10m. I use
the Fkeys program to send most all my messages. I had the Alt+K window
open to type in an unstructured message to reply to a question and with
the window still open I was able to click on one of the Fkeys button to
send the conclusion of the qso. So there is one way around the deaf
Function keys.
