Jeff WK6I:

Save File will save that particular contest and the setup you did for that one
contest ONLY.

The Setup - Save Configuration does exactly that, it saves the standardized
configuration for the ENTIRE program.

I have one standard configuration that I like (using Setup - Save
Configuration) that comes up each time I open the program (using New Log) to
begin setting up for a new contest.

Then once I have that particular contest setup the way I want it, I then I
simply Save File. It saves that particular contest setup only.

There, I just saved you 99 times of using Save Configuration. Save your
standard configuration once, then simply open a New Log, setup for that
particular contest and just use Save only.

Good question but I don't know the answer. I can tell you I only do a Save
Configuration when I change something. When I start a new contest, I import the
messages, Save the file with a filename, do any other changes (add/delete/move
windows or change the keying port for CW or RTTY), do a Save Configuration, and
then Save the file again. From there I normally never had to make any changes.

Subject: [WriteLog] save configuration

I've been using writelog since the turn of the century I think. There are some
things I do, because back when I learned how to get writelog to do what I
wanted it to do - and not get burned or lose things - those things just seemed
to work. It's almost like a ritual or incantation.

One of these things is save configuration. When setting up for a contest I bet
I do a save configuration 100 times. Every time I set a parameter or enable
something it's:

Save File
Setup
choose Save Configuration
click OK.

..because I don't want to lose what I have done and start over.

I have questions.

1. Why is save configuration still a tedious three click task? Why isn't it a
one click button like file save?

2. I'm going to guess the answer. It's because save configuration is actually
something you almost never have to do so why make a button for it.
Right?

3. If that is the case, then I must be doing save configuration about 99 times
too much...?

4. So then, what does save configuration really do?
