[Yaesu] FT990 power output problem

Shipmates, 
Setting up for CQWW yesterday revealed a problem with FT990 output. . . first
two or three dits (or dash) are at low output (say 40 watts) then it kicks up
to full power out driving the linears OK.  Quick search of reflector revealed
no leads.  Any suggestions?

[Yaesu] FT990 power output problem - need help for CQWW
