[Yaesu] FT-1000D and external receiver

Hi All

I would like to occassionly use an external receiver with my Yaesu FT-1000D.  
Can someone enlighten me as to how this can be accomplished?

Also my monitor function works fine in the CW mode but in the SSB mode it no 
longer operates.  Has anyone had this problem and determined the fix?
