Hello to all,
Well, the new caps arrived yesterday via FX from Yaesu as well as the Finals
& Driver from another source. I'm happy to report that everything is
installed now, the neutralization and alignment is complete and I now have a
smiling FT-101E once again ;-)
One thing that I found interesting after all is working again, the original
road I was going down (that is looking into the high negative voltage
reading at the -100v terminal ) is a nominal -168vdc and it is clearly
marked -100v on the PB-0176B board. I confirmed the reading on a working
101E I just got in and it is the same also (I checked it with 2 FET-VOMs
just to be sure).
Anyway, thanks goes out to all that lended help in solving this problem.
You guys (and gals) are the best!

RE: Problem in FT-101E -100v Circuit (Jerry Pittman)Hello Aaron,
Well back to the soldering iron I guess. I'm going to call Yaesu & order
the caps now because the ones I found here in town were as close as I could
get. I thank you for the expertise because my knowledge of these capacitors
is just not there.
Best regards,
Jerry

Whoooaaa Jerry,
Be careful there. S3N has a temp coefficient of -3300ppm/C and a
tolerance of +-2500ppm/C . Don't think you want to use these in the finals
section of any rig. You'll definitely need to use "NP0" or "COG" rated
caps.
As mentioned before, find some ceramic NP0 caps. They usually have a
black top painted on the disc. Silver mica caps are preferred in
transmitters as they usually have a tolerance of 5% (typical caps have a
tolerance anywhere from 20% to 80%).
I might have some 82pf silver micas around, but I don't know if they're
rated for 500v. Let me know if you can't find a local source.

Hello again Guillermo,
I was able to find a package of Hi-Q 82PF 10% 1k volt S3N Ceramic Caps to
use as replacements in my 101E. I also checked the same 80pf cap at the
transmit relay and it is showing signs of resistance break-down as well,
so
I am going to replace both of the original moulded mica caps with the new
ones while I'm in there.
Thanks again for all of the tips to all,
73 Jerry
