The other thing you might want to check is the PIN diode used to switch the 
transmitter to the
antenna.  If it gets leaky, it can cause some strange problems.

Sounds like it could be a noise blanker/ IMD problem Wim.
Have a look at some suggested mods for the FT1000  - this is a really 
useful site !
