Denton, I think you have cable connections that need cleaning. There's a lot of connections behind the Orion front panel. It's easy to remove that panel. Remove it and disconnect all the ribbon cable

I would still bet the problem is NOT a component failure but just a bad connection on the cables. The rigs are computers now and cable connections when not gold plated are unreliable with age. Carl M

You really need a special cable where only Send data, receive data and ground to the computer. On a DB25, this is pins 2, 3, and 7 that should be the only ones connected to the computer serial port.

The slow turn around between transmit and receive would be caused by running semi-breakin with a delay of 300 msec or so before you go back to receive. This would cause you to miss the first elements
