Bob, I would check for final amp tube. We have 2 of these amps at our club station and have seen the tube go south in just this manner, tripping the breaker first and then comming back to life before

Hi Tom, Before you tear everything apart, pull the tubes and turn on the amp. If the relay behaves correctly and you have normal signal strength received signals, you most likely have a shorted 811A
