The original lube in the Hub City gearbox is 90W petroleum based gear oil. They recommend using Mobil Synthetic Gear Oil SHC630 when changing the lube. It is also 90 W. The gearbox should be drained

My HDX589 gearbox takes one quart. $22 is not a big investment for a better gearbox lube. I also noticed a big diff in the heat generated also. Used to get hot to the touch after raising and lowering
