Same experience/opinion here (w/2 of 'em) - ~300Hz drift for 30 minutes, then it stays put. All the rigs of that vintage (and a number since) need to 'come to temperature' before they are stable. 73,

Best I've found for duct tape gunk is ethyl alcohol; will not go after vinyl, but take care if it wants to migrate into a nick or tear (it may well go after the vinyl adhesive if allowed to soak in.)
