NVIS and Field Day, that reminds me of my very first Field Day. We had not put up an 80 meter antenna, but I wanted to try the band in the evening, so I cut a 1/4 wave length of coax, strung ot throu

Has anyone tried removing one or two of the plastic spacers that are on the PTO spring shaft? I am wondering if the PTO would tune more smoothly if there was a little less spring tension. Mine seems

I, too, have thought of the bracket idea for adding an RF gain pot. At one time I rewired the mic gain pot for this but I took the mod out, because I didn't want a non-standard Scout. Why use an exte

Jim: If you are running half power, even a relatively small gel cell battery will work. I've been able to run 2-4 hours at a time using only a 7 amp-hour battery, though, bigger is better, of course.

The Scout PTO is different from the other PTO's. The principle is the same, but the components are different and it does not have an adjustable preload, except for some plastic spacers on the spring

It should be possible. I've been thinking about it myself. It should be easy to modify the bandpass filter and change the crystal. We need to do the math to make sure there will be no spurious output

Traditionally, that is true. Ham-band-only receivers were superior. Tuned circuits could be more selective because they tuned over a narrower range. VFO's, too, could be made more linear and stable,

A balanced antenna would be better. Buy 2 slinky toys and make a dipole. The steel coils will take solder, if you use a little paste flux. When stretched out, the resonant frequency is about 7.5 MHz.
