This year's CW WPX turned out to be my first real encounter with Murphy
during a contest. I had major computer problems, which eventually
resulted in a total hard disk failure. By the time it was clear I was
about to lose months if not years of work, I punted the contest and
began two days of fruitless recovery attempts. Bummer. Total operating
time was 16.5 hours.
Conditions were pretty good from TN. I don't think TN is such a bad
place to be for this contest. Very interesting propagation this time
of year from the mid-south US. Had some good strong signals from
JA, best I've heard in a while. Where were all the BV's and BY's I
heard every morning on 20m the week before? Never heard a single one.
Good condx over the pole the first night, just like the few weeks prior.
Many strong Russian signals, and excellent fists behind them.
It felt like I worked far fewer zero-pointers with the K4 PFX than last
year. (Last year I was WR3O.) I hope to do some comparison of the actual
numbers, and see what the difference really was. I enjoy this contest,
naysayers, cut-numbers, and zero-pointers notwithstanding. :-) Already
planning for next year. Thanks for the QSO's!
