Comments: IC-706 MKII, 40M dipole @ 10 ft above hotel roof, NA v10.25
Shared rig and antenna with K4PG who made a single-band effort on 40 Meters.
He operated 0000-1200Z each day while I took the 1200-2400Z shift. I lost
ground Saturday while trying to decide whether to make my single-band 10 or 15
Meters. Mornings were a washout with the Europeans dominating the band. Very
few US stations were workable before about 11AM EST each day. During the runs,
watched the rate meter go above 200 a few times, very satisfying! The new 706
worked flawlessly, although the receiver leaves a lot to be desired. Dynamic
range is poor and selectivity with the "500Hz" filter is quite broad. Our 40M
dipole survived some heavy winds from El Nino driven storms. All in all, a
successful trip for a couple of novice DXpeditioners...
