Soapbox Comments:
Only my second time in the SS (I got my HF ticket in 10/97), but I nearly
doubled my score from last year, thanks to a slightly better antenna system
and a year of HF operating under my belt. My goal for the contest was to at
least double last year's score - missed it by about 50 Q's.
Also with 60 mults in the first 6 hours, I had fleeting fantasies about a
clean sweep, but unfortunately PQ, YT and NL were in short supply. Only
heard one VE2 the entire contest - he was S&P'ing and I guessed wrong when
I tried to move up the band and snag him with a "CQ VE2"... Didn't hear a
single VO1 and couldn't wade through the pileup for the VY1... Was
worrying about getting VE1 also but found two of them rag chewing on 10m
and managed to pull one away for a quick QSO.
Biggest thrill: Finding mults the "old-fashioned" way instead of using the
packet cluster (which I've become far too reliant upon.) It was really
neat to just stumble into the last several when time was getting short and
I was getting desperate...
See you all next year!
73,
