This year reminded me of last year. Great start and baaaad finish except
this year the start was way better and the finish was way worser. Had a
109 first hour on ten and a 101 second hour still on ten. Then things
went stinko. Checked 80 and it was longer than Clinton's nose. So much
for the close in mults tonight. I called it quits in the 0600 hour
knowing that if I went outside I'd see a nice visible aurora. I sure
enough did. Well,... at least it's always pretty to look at. Slept for
five and a half hours and on Sunday I couldn't get a run going even
after washing down half a pound of X-LAX with prune juice. It was like
a 14 hour root canal sans novacaine. I heard the mondo KP2 pile and
poked around in it for a bit to no avail. Then I find a VE9 handing out
single digit serial numbers. His signal is fluctuating from S zilch to
S9 in rapid succession as the shot-gunned ionosphere tries to relect his
RF. Then the obvious packet spot hits. My 120 watts ain't being heard as
he stops at around #15 and asks for QRP only before QSBing and QRTing.
Well,.... maybe I'll find Wyoming before the cows come home. Nope, never
did. Oh, well. Those first two hours were the only high point and it's
still a blast even though I thought this was really gonna be the year.
This was the toughest Sunday I can remember.

73 and uh oh, that prune juice just hit, gotta run.....
