This is a quiz.

The file below has the TWO problems that represent a large portion
of "problem" posts that get BOUNCED back to list administrators for FIXING
and approval. YES, many times we (the list administrators) FIX your
messages and resend them so they can go through in a timely manner.
(The alternative is to bounce the message back to you for fixing but since
we're nice guys, we usually don't.)

Problem #1: The CC: field was used. When sending messages to the reflector,
place ALL addresses in the To: field. Sometimes we forget - even I - and
it's
pretty easy to fix. However, try to remember.

Problem #2: The message is duplicated. There are two copies of the message
in this
post. One in "plain text" and one in HTML. This is really nasty because:
        a) it looks ugly
        b) it requires considerable editing to clean up (especially those =
signs)
        c) it wastes over 3x the space and bandwidth of a plain text message

(the message gets sent twice but then add in all that
overhead too.)

Problem #2 is a real scourge because Outlook (Express) defaults to
this format
on installation. If you only used Outlook to read and send messages,
you would
never notice it because the program hides the plain text version
from you
and you just get the "pretty" message with all the fonts, colors,
and highlights
the sender put in. However, those of us not using Outlook and the
list server
it self are not enamored by the "pretties" so they get BOUNCED.

PLEASE go into Outlook (Express) and turn OFF the HTML formatting
and
turn ON the plain text option for your outgoing messages (at least
to any of
the @contesting.com supported reflectors - and many others). If you
have any
questions as to whether your messages are going out clean - please
talk to me
        off line.

(Note: For 3830 contest submission page users, your messages are
formatted correctly no matter what your settings. )

Both these issues are addressed in the rules and FAQ you received when you
signed up.
It's easy to forget and problem #2 seems to comes in waves. I've seen
remarks on-line
that some messages are taking a while to get through to the reflector.
Usually, the culprit is
a BOUNCED message and it will have to wait for approval before continuing
on. If we
can kill the two above issues, it would go a long way to raising throughput.
