This contest was about renewing old friendships and making new ones.
With some of the regulars out of town (K1EA, KM3T and K6AW were all
taking on the world from HC8N) we got an opportunity to infuse some
new blood (and some old) into the station.
Bob N6HB (ex-KA1XN) and Matt first operated together from P40X in the
late 1980s when Aruba had just become a new DXCC entity. He was a
fixture at Matt's first M/S operations from his old place in
Tewksbury, MA. Larry DL7ALM and Dave N3RD both returned, and we
welcomed Dan N6MJ to the seductive power of contesting from the right
coast. Ed K1TR dropped by Sunday to help get the sun back in working
order.
Christine and the girls, Sabrina (who'll be 6 in just a month - WOW)
and Cassandra were just wonderful, keeping the operators well fueled
as well as entertained during breaks.
Murphy paid a visit as well. The switching on the 80 meter delta loop
arrays was basically hosed, but despite this John W1FV still managed a
nice run of 80 JAs Sunday morning. In fact, we worked more JAs on 80
than on 40! We won't mention the solar flare on Sunday, but suffice
it to say, Matt's wide spectrum of antennas kept the bands open for us.
Our half-time score of just over 15M gave us hope of breaking the 30M
point/10K QSO barrier, but it was just not to be this time. Rumor has
it that there will be another chance about a year from now.
Thanks as usual to the intense competition from W3LPL, K3LR and N2RM.
Without them, we wouldn't be here either.
