Comments:

CQWW is simply magical--what an amazing contest! Among many other highlights, I
had a sustained 179 rate on 10 meters Saturday--my best ever. (The best clock
hour was 175 at 13Z; 12Z was close behind at 171.) Also worked my first
longpath 40-meter way-cool stuff, such as 9M6, on Sunday afternoon. I really
needed a shot in the arm at that point. I got out of the chair only twice
during the weekend, and it was a long haul, complete with the usual
hallucinations at the low points.

TR Log is amazing. I love the two-radio features and use them as fully as
possible. The report says I did 333 second-radio QSOs, but it was actually a
little more because there were times when I found two stations on the
second-radio band before getting an answer on my CQ frequency. This really
boosts the QSO total--I made 650 more QSOs this year than last year, and the
antennas haven't changed much (added the bottom 15-meter beam at 35 feet in
January).

An interesting statistic: My final score wound up being 2.09 times that of the
first 24 hours. A long time ago, I learned from K5ZD that you could gauge your
score expectation by taking what you had done in the first 24 hours, doubling
it, and adding 10%. It has worked so well for me in the past that I can see
whether I've performed consistently (barring vastly different conditions on the
two days). I've found that it holds well for many contests.

I am very pleased overall, though the solar crapola really hammered the bands
late in the contest. The one big change I made from previous years was
developing a detailed, hour-by-hour operating plan for the whole contest. Dan,
K1TO, provided a valuable assist on this (thanks pal!). Sticking to the plan
was the best thing I've done for my operating performance over past years, when
I've lost direction and done some major hone-head maneuvers.

I can only imagine how much better all the scores would have been if the sun
hadn't done its thing when it did. Seems like the CQWW's charmed solar luck is
over, or perhaps it's just a blip that won't revisit us next year. For at least
the past decade, CQWW had been The Teflon Contest.

Now on to planning: The high bands play well here, but I eat dirt on 80 and
160, and 40 needs a boost. Time to address those issues!

Here's the rate sheet:
