Comments:

Tom let me pretty much rebuild his station for this contest. For the first time
since I operated K6RU in the ARRL DX in 1982, I didn't feel that the station
was a liability. The operator was, but that is another story :-) I blew
Saturday morning by not S&P'ing more aggressively for EU (I thought the band
was going to open to EU the way it did for CQP, oops!), that probably cost me
most of the 8 country difference between me and K3EST (I missed YU, for
example). Then I left my run frequency (when I was going at >140 hr.) Saturday
afternoon to look for SA mults, of which I found a grand total of 2 (both of
which I could have worked easily on Sunday). I had a very hard time
restablishing a run frequency, which probably cost me most of the ~100 point
QSO difference with 'EST. None of which is to say that I should have beaten
him. I expected not to, and I was right :-) The better operator won, which is
as it should be.

All that said, I had a great time.

This effort has been (and will be) written up in more detail than anyone is
probably interested in at http://my.ispchannel.com/~djl/ham/arrl10_TOC.html .

The antennas were 6 element 24' boom OWA monobanders at 25'/55'/85', with the
top two independently rotatable and the bottom one fixed at 80 degrees or so.
Mornings, I had the top 2 to EU and ran all three. Mid-day, the bottom two
stateside, and the top on either to EU or SA, used as needed. Afternoons, the
top one moved to JA, and late in the day I pulled the middle one around also
giving me 6/6 to JA and the bottom one stateside. I used a TS-850 + Alpha 76 +
Writelog in the shack.

Thanks to Kenny, K2KW and lots of others who sent emails for the encouragement,
Bob, K3EST for the competition that gave me a target to stretch for, and most
of all Tom, N6NF, without whose unflagging support and assistance this would
not have been possible.

            ***dan, K6IF
