I got a good start this year. The first hour was slow but 15M opened early and
10M was very good. I had some very good runs on both 10 & 20 meters. I'm sure
the amplifier helped on the run station.
I only operated just less than 12 hours. The early start time caused me to
tire. I took a 2 hour nap Sat. afternoon and decided quit early to go to bed
so I could go fishing Sunday. I wanted to keep going because 20M sounded like
it was going to be open all night. I quit right at 600 Q's.
I could tell when the K index went to 3 on Saturday. Signals became flutterly
but that lasted only a couple of hours. I also could tell when it dropped back
to 2 because 20M got real good with excellent EU & JA signals earlier than
normal and 10 & 15M stayed open late with good signals from Asia.
Highlights were having 4K6DI call me on 10M and 7Z1ZZ call me on 20m. Terrific
runs on 10 & 20 meters. Worked 61 countries & all 6 continents.
Lowlight was not having the energy or stamina to go the full 24 hours. I think
I could have topped the 1000 QSO mark with a more serious effort. Condx were
good enough. Missed ZS6RVG again. I decided not to work 40 & 80M.
Thanks to BARTG for sponsoring this fun contest and for accepting Cabrillo
logs.
