sPENT THE FIRST NIGHT WITH THE FEELING THAT MY SIGNAL WAS PRETTY WEAK. I HAD TO
ADJUST THE TUNER EVERY FEW MINUTES TO REDUCE THE SWR AND I ASSUMED THAT THE
BALUN I INSTALLED A COUPLE DAYS AGO HAD GONE BAD. i WOKE UP THE NEXT MORNING TO
DISCOVER THAT HALF THE ANTENNA WAS DOWN AND AGAINST THE SUPPORT MAST WITH THE
CONNECTION AT THE BALUN STILL INTACT AND THE OTHER HALF HAD A PRONOUNCED SLOPE
TOWARD THE ANTARTIC. IF THE ANTARTIC HAD PRODUCED ENOUGH ACTIVITY, I WOULD HAVE
HAD IT MADE, NO WONDER FO8DX WAS THE ONLY STATION REALLY BLOWING MY S-METER
AWAY. AFTER REPAIRS THE SECOND NIGHT SOUNDED MUCH BETTER, EUROPEANS AND
AFRICANS WERE MUCH EASIER TO WORK. IM DISCOURAGED BY THE NUMBER OF LOUD
EUROPEANS WHO SIT IN THE FOREIGN PHONE BAND AND WORK SIMPLEX FOR HOURS WITHOUT
LISTNING UP. THEY OFTEN COMPLAIN THAT PACIFIC AREA CONTACTS ARE HARD TO COME BY
BUT WHEN THEY ARE 10 OVER OUT HERE FOR HOURS AND DONT LISTEN ON ANY FREQUENCY WE
CAN WORK, THEY HAVE NO REAL COMPLAINT. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE CONTACTS AND
THE ENJOYABLE TIME, SOON i WILL BE ABLE TO PUT OUT MORE THAN THE PRESENT 300
WATTS AND ILL BE EASIER TO WORK.
ALOHA
