Comments:
Didn't hear AF8A on from the netherlands of NW Michigan last Saturday? There's
a reason -- the mobile adventure was called off at the last minute.
W8AV had some personal business that required his attention, and I decided it
would not be a good idea to attempt the trek to NW Michigan alone, so at 1200Z
Sat. AM, I decided to do my part by firing up W8EDU, the Case ARC station, for
the MiQP.
I quickly pulled the rig, antennas and accessories from my truck, Ethernetted
the logging software from my desktop to my wife's laptop, grabbed a CW interface
and my IC-738, and off I went. (I was quite surprised to find an Omni VI at the
previously low-band rig deficient club station, recently donated by a generous
professor). I pointed the 40M beam NW, and I was ready.
The operation started just after noon. It quickly became obvious that I was in
for a one-band contest, at least until darkness set it. Nonetheless, I had fun,
though I did catch myself napping once or twice.
