Comments:
Conditions were poor on 40 meters. Had S-9 noise most of the time. Finally
discovered that the hard drive on the mapping computer was adding 3 s-units of
noise to the mix so we shut it off for a while.
Right as we passed into Logan county steam started coming from the hood and the
charge light came on. Quick drove the one mile into town and then discovered
that the waterpump had trashed the bearing. Locals told of a service
station/parts store down the road three miles. We limped in there but had to
leave the vehicle and abandon the contest with only 15 out of 25 counties
covered. Bummer. The rates had just started to improve too. Maybe next
year.
