Comments:
My first SOAB effort in this contest....but not my last! Fantastic experience,
all the usual highs and lows. Scotland's weather prior to and during CQWW SSB is
a reliably BAD feature it seems, though this year our friends in the deep south
of UK really took the pasting. Here, the weather was grim the week prior to the
event, which made last minute antenna work (is there any other kind !!?) a
challenge, and also 'intestesting' on Sunday AM, such that I thought I would
lose 80m. Luckily it survived.
Aurora really hurt 10m up here, Zone 3 featured maybe twice in the whole weekend
and the mid west was a struggle, esp on Saturday. Few JA possible on Saturday,
no way on Sunday! Some polar stuff on 20m Saturday night was interesting. Low
bands were also down, with signals often 'too weak' for my Beverages.
More stations than ever in SA and Caribbean running pile-ups but rarely signing.
Doubtless this is considered the smart way to high rates, and is made possible
by callers picking up calls from their favourite 'spotting source/operating
crutch/surrogate receiver/cluster' etc., so apparently there is no need to
hear,or ask for, identification. This is unbelievably frustrating for those of us
in 'cluster free' shacks.
