My first RTTY RU...What a BLAST!! Not sure who had more fun, me or my 2 month
old grand-daughter who was completely fascinated with the RTTY diddles...She sat
here for hours wide-eyed and quiet...Maybe another ham in a few years ??
RTTY is fast becoming one of my favourite modes for contesting...I've only done
3 RTTY contests (WAE, OK DX and RU)so still getting used to it and have much to
learn...MMTTY kept crashing every few hours, so will have to straighten that
out...Worst time for a crash was just when A45WD called me, but I did the
quickest re-launch of software in history and managed to complete the
QSO...Finally got FSK working so was really happy to have my 250hz filter
available...What a difference...Also learned that running with "NET" on is not a
good idea...Figured that one out with only a couple hours left...Live and
learn
All bands were open when they should've been and no equipment problems which
added to the fun and it was no problem keeping a good run going...As usual, 15
metres was the "bread & butter band" for me...Close to half of my mults came on
15...Was a little disappointed at the country count, thought for sure I would
get more than 59, but maybe that's normal on RTTY...Left the Telnet connection
off, so as not to be classed as M/S,(why can someone use 2 radios and still be
SO, but using Telnet makes me MO???) so that is likely why the country count is
down from normal...Didn't hear any of Canada's territories and missed NF and
LB...Took the longest time to get a NV station and then had a half dozen in a
half hour...Thought I was not going to get NS until VE1AOE called me late Sunday
(thanks Don)
All in all, a great contest, look forward to the next one...
Equipment: Yaesu FT1000MP,(and to quote another posting here, ONE radio) AL811
linear running 300-400 watts most of the time, Hy Gain EXP 14 beam (10,15 and
20) wires for 40 and 80, Writelog with MMTTY (FSK)...
Thanks for all the multi-band stations who called, had many on 4 bands...My
apoligies to the VE(9 or 8)???? who tried for an hour to get through, I just
couldn't print you...It was likely the VE8 that was on, knowing my luck!!
73 and will C U in the CW NAQP this weekend...
