Comments:
Last things first. 29 hours is all the time that is necessary for this contest
at this time of the year at this latitude. The Max 30 hours for ALL entries
should provide a good balance between latitudes AND the CW & SSB contests.
Other than the QRN problem the first night, everything went smooth at the N7GP
operation. The static crashes were +20 dB on the east Beverages at the start of
the contest an hour before sunset. The crashes did not abate at all until the
Saturday morning sunrise had cleared the Texas-Louisiana state line. Then, in a
matter of 15 minutes the band went to an eerie silence. That worked well for
T31MY calling in with her loop and 100 Watts at 1301Z.
We did work all 50 states in a bit less than 12 hours but early on that was not
even visible. Only TWO 4th district states had been worked by 0700 hours.
Deleware was # 50 at 1140 Z. No DC heard out west. No maritime other than
Jeff's bunch. No Jay. Best DX to the east was EI7M and D4B. Heard EA8/OH2BYS
but never got so much as a ? out of him.
Two new operators were given training and substantial time at the operating
desk. They learned very well about QRN and repeats as well as periods of 30
minutes without a QSO.
