Comments:

This was a 3/4 effort, trying to visit the rig two or three times per hour to
work the mobiles as they moved to new counties and check the band for new fixed
stations. By operating this way, it's fairly easy to put in a decent effort and
still get some other things done around the house. It seemed like there were
more fixed stations on the air this year, and they were racking up some good QSO
totals.

I managed about 11 Q's and one mult fewer than last year. Like several others,
I missed Bradford for the sweep. I thought KU8E might get there in the last
hour but it was not to be. I understand they were there on Saturday but I
couldn't hear them at all most of the day. In fact few of the mobiles moved the
S meter on Saturday at this location. I think we were just on the edge of the
skip zone. Looks like it was a good weekend to operate from Europe.

All mobiles had their weak and strong moments, but N4OO and KN4Y seemed to have
better sigs on average, while it seemed like N4TO was weak a lot of the time.

The number of serious mobiles seems to increase every year as people realize
just how much fun this kind of operating is. How many guys came in from out of
state this time? Looks like at least four or five. Did anyone else notice that
the overall QSO rates of the top three mobiles were only slightly below the
rates achieved by the leading teams in the WRTC last year? As the secret gets
out, it won't be at all surprising to see 20-30 mobiles out there on the roads
in a couple of years, with teams flying in from all over the country and around
the world. Will the CQWWDX and the WRTC become warm-ups for the FQP?

Nice going, FCG.

73,

Hal W1NN
