Comments:
Had planned to run a single band operation because I was without an antenna. The
tower is down and the new one is still lying on the ground. So I put up the R5
vertical on a broomstick in the ground in the back yard and it seemed to tune up
okay. A few initial pre-contest contacts gave me confidence that I could operate
15m reasonably well.
It turned out that by Saturday morning 15 was very slow so I decided to dust off
the old VE3BUC callsign and run a parallel SB operation on 20. Good move as 20
turned out to be the better of the two bands by a small margin. All contacts
were S&P and at times I felt like I was back operating /W4 with a Hamstick. But
it was good fun and enjoyed making the 480+ contacts on the two bands.
