This was my first time to operate the CQP full time in the past I have only
gotten on to hand out a few contacts. As it turns out this was also the first
time to do a serious mixed mode entry in any contest.
Going in I knew that 10 meters was going to be a big unknown - but it would be
the key to making a big score since there are a limited number of stations to
work. But it never did really open - Sunday saw a nice short opening to the
northern part of the state but the rest of the time the signals on 10 meters
were a whisper here in central Texas. I did have the 6 meter rig on all weekend
but the band never opened to CA or anywhere else.
The rates were good on phone but my CW CQs went largely unanswered.
Thanks to the mobiles and portables. I think W6OAT and K6AQL were the
most often worked for me.

Congratulations to the great score by VA7RR at VE7SZ ? hearing Gary with almost
the same number all the time keep me working hard to try and pull away. I am
amazed that Gary does so well even though he is too close to work California on
the high bands well or at all on 10 and 15.
A big thanks to the NCCC for putting on a fine contest and encouraging tons of
activity.
