Comments:
Due to a major reconstruction which took place in our (+OK1RF) antenna farm this
year both our 40m monster Yagis are still laying on the ground and 80m antenna
is nonexistent single band operation was the only option. The possibilities were
20+15. 20m - i did already 6 times. I have not been on 15m for over 10 Years. I
spoke with 9A9A ("head" of 9A1A group) the evening before the contest, he told
me he will be on 15m and that someone from 9A1A group would be on 20m too. So I
decided to give up the battle for a trophy on 20 (now when we know that GI0KOW
was 20m single band it was anyway out of reach from anyone in middle Europe). I
expected the battle on 15m will go for the second place since 9A1A crew simply
"owns" the high bands in Europe (Congrats to Emil 9A9A for huge score well over
old Eu record). CT8T, GI0KOW and 9H0A could probably fight with them but so far
as I guess no one else. I was very positively surprised by the propagation,
everyone expected that after the flares we will observe various horrible things
but not the possibility to work ALL zones on 15m. The propagation was really
weird (for instance the band "died" during 2 minutes -I worked with a rate over
1/min and suddenly END and even SA was very week and out of reach, the
short-skip opennings very swiftly openned and closed again within seconds, the
long/short pass JA openning was changing several times during the morning...)-
as a lot of people said, but very good. I have missed a couple of "easy"
multipliers (like AP, 9M2 and others...), but it happens. We should also do
something about listening to Europe, it is a real problem, but what ?!?! I had
fun, it was nice contest, it was probably more "fun" operation than the 20m
would be. Thanks to all that GAVE me a QSO.
