Comments:
This contest had its share of high points and low points. Obviously, the
conditions were pretty screwy at times (Saturday night I felt like I was on six
meters in a VHF test) but I made the best of it.
I had the same number of W/VE mults as last year (51) - but I sure did work a
lot harder for them this time. It was interesting to watch the propagation
slowly move across the country at times. Much of the time, I found I couldn't
work stations that were booming in - instead I had to wait for their signals to
drop back down before they could hear me. Very odd. I'm sure others have
similar tales as well.
I made the most of what I could hear in terms of mults. EI and North Carolina
were the only two that I heard but could not work. It was frustrating to think
that there were hundreds of EU stations behind an RF wall.
I did SO2R for the first day of the contest, but then my ole TS-530 sort of
rebelled and didn't want to run at full power...so I just used my IC-706.
It was nice to CQ and use the second radio to listen for other stations for the
first time. I can see where it takes a lot of practice to do it right.
Sunday was cut very short because of work (couldn't Saddam have waited another
day or so?) and a family gathering...but it was still a great contest as always.
Thanks to all for the contacts and happy holidays.
