Comments:

Goals: Improve on last year's score of 377,538 using dipoles.Complete judgement
of effectiveness (or lack thereof) of the Force 12 C3 @ 50 feet in a contest
environment.

Equip: TS 930S, SB 220 Force 12 C3 and 40 & 80 Mtr dipoles.

Friday at 0000Z started off well with a small run of JA's on 15 mtrs, then to 20
mtrs for some good runs, then decided to try for some 6pt contacts on 40 with
very good results calling EU stations. Then switched to 75 mtrs and while
calling CQ was asked to listen down for EU. This led to our first ever run of EU
on 75, however there was deliberate interference trying to drown out the EU
stations with some hideous tones. When we changed the listening freq the jammer
followed until probably being dismayed by the fact that he was not that
effective, just annoying, finally gave up. At 1200Z or so, while 20 was wide
open and was great the first couple of hours, we decided to try 15 mtrs, which
gave fair results. Conditions here favored only Southern Europe as follows:
54 G on 20 only 3 on 15 mtrs
15 ON on 20 only 2 on 15 mtrs
16 PA on 20 only 2 on 15 mtrs
10 SM on 20 none on 15 mtrs
20 SP on 20 only 3 on 15 mtrs
46 UA on 20 none on 15 mtrs
Short forays to 10 mtrs yielded the usual lineup of LU and PY stations and some
limited Carribean.
At about 2100Z we noticed someone had abandoned 14.152 and gave a quick CQ which
quickly resulted in some good pileups that lasted until 0100Z and produced some
goodies such as TA4EB, 3B9C, A61AV and VP8DGA.

On Sunday, made almost as many contacts on 10 mtrs as on 15 mtrs. Conditions on
15 Sunday were such that calling CQ to EU and then to the west coast produced
not one reply after 10 minutes on 21.202. Almost 90% of the Sunday contacts were
on 20 mtrs.

Final thoughts: The Force 12 C3 seemed to perform well on 20 mtrs considering it
has only two elements, withhold judgement on 15 until conditions improve; for
now only fair. On 10 mtrs the gain is just not there compared to my previous KLM
6 el on 26 foot boom. Adding the 10 Mtr reflector to make it a C3E might help.

In any case, had a great time in one of my favorite contests, since it combines
the best elements of DX contests and the ability to work US stations for
credit.
Thanks to all who called; wait 'til next year.Sorry, Red Sox, couldn't resist...
