Comments:

I operated in the single band 20m category using a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V
running 500 watts into a homebrew 4el 36? boom antenna at 78?. The contest
started at a rapid pace, however this didn?t last long as signals started to
drop after 45 minutes. Still I had a decent first hour total of 334 and I felt
I was off to a good start. Things got slow quickly so I decided to sleep and
hope for better rates in the morning. On Saturday conditions must have been
good from Europe to North America for most of the day and I was not getting
much attention. I felt like I was in the black hole of the Midwest. I often
lost my frequency to a EU station. It also appeared that ZF2AH was louder and
working more stations than I during the daytime and I almost took the afternoon
off to go to the beach. I stuck with it and around 2100z my rates increased to
the 150 mark until the band started to close around 0030z. Sunday was even
slower for me and it again seemed that Europe had a nice opening to N.A. It's
also slow on 20m during the day when everyone moves to 10m and 15m. During the
last two hours of the contest rates started to picked up and my last hour
produced 194 QSO's. Despite the poor conditions for me, I am happy that I
broke the old South American 20m record. ZX5J may have also broken the record,
however I haven?t seen his or HP1XVH or ZF2AH?s score and I?m not sure how I
placed. After the contest I had a nice seafood dinner with P40L / W6LD. I?d
like to thank everyone for the QSO?s and please QSL via WD9DZV. Please email me
for rental information.

73,
John KK9A
