Comments:

I operated from the Family Beach cottage on the OBX at KDH NC. I Used the
Tarheel Screwdriver Antenna on my Chevy Trailblazer, running coax into cottage.
The Rig used was an Icom 756 Pro II. To maximize efficency of the antenna, a 21
foot extendable self-supporting whip with quick disconnect was used, connected
at the top of the coil. I also to reduce near field losses placed 16 radials
under the vehicle and attached at the antenna. These were made from aluminum
gutter screen which was 6 inches wide and cut to 10 foot lengths. Availability
of space for longer radials was not feasiable, so I went for density. I am not
sure how much the extended whip and extensive radials improved working
conditions, but I heard well, and was easily heard. I believe that if I had run
in the high power category,I could have had better runs.
