Comments:
FT1000MP, Alpha 78, TH6DXX, dipole, zepp, inverted vee. 1 KW output.
Used NA10.57 and manually changed all "NF" exchanges to "NL" and all "PEI"
exchanges to "PE" in the Cabrillo file to comply with contest exchange
requirements.
Nice to work SECC member K4AQ, who was QRP.
Interesting QSOs were with VE8NSD in NT on 20 SSB, UI0IMA (20 SSB) and GB4SKO
(20CW) on IOTA islands, 6Y5/K0JGH who was QRP, 4Z4NM, EA8BIE on 40 and 20 M and
EA8ASJ on 20, CX7BY on 40, JA7BSV on 20 SSB about 21Z, 3A2MD on 20 CW, and
special contest calls SO6A and LT1A. Also nice to work NJ4X (W7FB) now back on
the air after having moved from Utah to Missouri.
It seems to me that many non Canadian stations didn't realize that they could
work other non VA/VE stations for points and they missed many of the interesting
QSOs mentioned above.
Didn't try 160 M since QRN was so bad on 80. In fact, there were no contest
signals heard on 80 until quite late, I assume because of QRN. It is hard for a
US General Class Operator to make many SSB contacts in this contest, since the
Canadian stations seldom stray into the General Class US frequencies. No SSB
activity was heard on 40 even though the suggested frequency is at the bottom of
the General Class segment. I don't believe I have ever worked but one VE
station in a RAC contest on 40 SSB. No signals were heard in the General Class
segment on 15 or on 10 or 6 M during the contest period. I had to sleep a
little and work a full day and also had a tennis team practice near the end of
the contest period. I did hear a LU/VE2 station in the contest on 15 CW, but he
never strayed above the 025 khz limit, so I was unable to call or work him.
Thanks for all the QSOs and the fun. Hope to see you all in the Canada Winter
Contest in December.
Just before that, please look for me as PJ4/K4BAI December 8 - 15 and in the
ARRL 10 Meter Contest as PJ4Z M/S with Fred, WW4LL. Hope we will have some 28
mhz propagation for that contest.
