Comments:
Due to schedule conflicts, we had a very late set up this year. We were still
fixing computers at 1:00 AM on Friday morning! (We normally try to set up and
get everything totally ready the weekend before a major contest, but vacations
interfered this year.) The good news is that the repaired computers, combined
with the latest CT for DOS resulted in the first time when we didn't have to
merge logs after the contest. They were all the same. Marvelous!
With the media buildup of Bonnie and Charley, we were certain that the low bands
would be a bust all weekend with lots of precipitation noise, but Friday night
was excellent, with low noise and good signals. However, as many have reported,
Saturday night was disappointing.
20 and 15 are always strong bands for us in this contest. We thought that 15
stayed open extra long on Saturday. 10m is the big challenge, of course. This
year we installed a 5 element yagi at 150 feet, and the effort was worth it. We
were able to hear and work several Euros that were not copiable on the lower 3
stack, with its highest yagi at 85 feet.
Congratulations to the fine team at KC1XX, who put in yet another super effort.
Pete NO2R and his team was great competition, too, putting in a splendid effort
from home (normally Pete ops at K2NG in this one).
Thanks to DARC for sponsoring this great contest. We always have a blast, and
this year was no exception.
