Comments:

This one was TOUGH on QRPers! LOTS of 15 to 25 hours with only a couple of good
hours Saturday Morning. The thought "Life is too short for QRP" kept going
through my mind. :-)

40M results were good but the band seemed 'empty' compared with years past. 80
(and 160) were VERY difficult from ALA. OK2RZ was LOUD (my only Z15) along with
a few western EU. KH6 and JA were nice 80M surprises at sunrise. 20M was
lagging 15 and 40 until Sunday morning which proved to be very good. African
activity level was a nice surprise with many multiband Q's representing 14
different countries.

Packet Pileups are the PITS! -
When EU goes away, if you aren't a BIG GUN, fighting for the remaining Carib,
SA, and AF stations is tedious. I took a nap around noon Saturday to let the
dust settle and get some much needed sleep. Lost 15 minutes at the end of the
contest jumping between the BA4RF and DU3NXE pileups to no avail.

Added an Icom 746PRO to the table this year. IMPRESSIVE little radio! Used the
narrow CW filter and CW Reverse to eliminate a strong EU signal to pull out and
work a weaker multiplier. NEAT!

Changed antenna strategy this year, rotating MonoBanders to work SA / Carib
multipliers when pileups were large.

Antennas as follows:

80 NE / SW Dipole at 130 ft, JA / SA Inv. Vee at 140 ft., GP, Vertical
40 CC 2L40 at 95 ft.
20 2.5 EL 20 Telrex (half director broke off in storm - tree too high)
15 CC 4L15 at 55 ft.
10 HB 5L10 at 62 ft.

TH7 at 40 ft (rotary)
TH3 fixed SE at 40 ft
TA32 fixed South at 60 ft
