Comments:
Congrats to NE4AA, N2RM, K1SE and no doubt NX5M and probably a few others who
smoked us this year. We didn't make any station improvements since last year,
and honestly hadn't really gotten ourselves prepared to make a serious run this
time. Still, things felt pretty good the first night and even into Saturday
morning. Then we were hit with some strange new power line noise that I haven't
experienced here before. It was S9+ and seemed to radiate all along the power
line across the street. The best null we could get was about S7 when pointing
NE. After trying to work through it, we finally went QRT for several hours.
Then, it magically went away late Saturday night. So I guess we ended up with
roughly 29 hours on the air.
After that, we really let off the gas and took the opportunity to put Joana and
Phivocs (my XYL and son) in chair for a while. Phivocs really seemed to enjoy
helping out!
I always look forward to this contest every year, both because of the
interesting mix of propagation modes and the fun K9GX and I always have doing
the M/S thing. Maybe we'll get good enough some day that we can beat NE4AA once
I get the next tower up, and this event turns into a VHF contest at the bottom
of the cycle!
