Comments:

Friday night started out with a roar! I increased my opening night session over
last year ten fold. Well, that's not saying much because I only had 6 contacts
the first two hours in 2003. Thanks to a pipeline between the Upper Peninsula
and Texas I had a good run calling CQ. The rest of the weekend was
frustrating!

Calling CQ only netted about 25 contacts. I spent most of my time spinning the
dial. Conditions were worse than last year. No Europe at all. There wasn't
even a peep from anything north of EA8 or CT3! Other than one ZL, I worked
nothing from Oceania and again, like last year, not a single JA. Thanks to all
of the LU and PY stations. Without their activity, it would have been mostly a
Sweepstakes contest and a poor one at that. I worked a coouple VE3s and that was
it for Canada. California was even tough to work this year. Usually, if I point
the beam southwest, I have a nice run with 6s and 7s.but not this past weekend.
I think that most of the hams out west took down the 10 meter antennas!

Sunday was a waste of a nice day. Few signals were heard, only four signals on
the whole band from 2050 until the close of the contest. Football must have
diverted the majority of the hams from the 10 meter band. I did spend some time
calling an FM station to no avail. I probably wouldn't have gotten my report
anyway because he was always parked next to a certain HC3 that was 10 khz wide
and 59 plus!

I can't believe how dead 10 meters can be when you live above 45 degrees north
during a down cycle. I couldn't even hear half the stations that were coming
back to stations in 4 and 5 land. Until 10 meters comes back, I think I'll spend
the second weekend in December putting up Christmas decorations or deer hunting.
