Hello John

Frequency fights are distasteful and I'm uneasy about prolonging it on
3830 but surely it was you who dragged it into the open by referring
in your account to my callsign and asserting that I drifted onto your
frequency; we now know that was incorrect and that you QSYed from 3513
onto my frequency.

I received a mail from an N1MM user suggesting that what may have
happened was that you accidentally hit <PAGE DN>, apparently that moves
you down 10kHz. It certainly accords with my observation - there was no
series of "?" or anything else, the first I heard of you (and I use QSK)
was "TU OO4UN" and I remember thinking something along the lines of "now
that's a novel way to try and take a frequency!" but at the same time I
was most surprised that you would do such a thing and in such a blatant
manner.

Here's a small extract from my log:

The frequency is nominal, as I said my run radio does not have PC
control. Like you I have a five-minute gap. I think this is when we
locked horns, finishing with our "exchange" and then we both moved
apart. It rather looks like my clock was a minute slow. Your log does
not indicate that you moved to from 3513 to 3503 at 0634, only that 0634
was when your first QSO on the new frequency took place. My alt-N note
records that the trouble started after my QSO with K9ZO which was at
0629, your time.

At no time during this period was I doing 2-radio stuff, nor going for a
pee. It's not as you suggest a case of my coming back after leaving the
frequency and trying to re-assert my "right".

I don't believe this was a case of frequency stealing on your part.
After we had CQed at one another several times you sent something like
"g4buo why are you doing this?" and I remember being surprised because
from my perspective I was very clearly the injured party. So I quite
reasonably replied "I have been here 30 minutes" and received the
memorable reply "that is a lie". Well it wasn't.

It's very unlikely that this can be definitively resolved, and indeed I
would not have mentioned it on 3830 if you hadn't, but the observations
from my part do support the <PAGE DN> theory. Anyway after our little
spat I think we both moved apart and I'm very glad we did because BC and
CA immediately afterwards were both multipliers for me.

73, Dave G4BUO
